Dinghy Skeg

Sun Doggie
After laminating the cedar strips onto the gunwales of the dinghy I found the screws I used wouldn’t come out. The epoxy had seized them. D4 Dinghy Alternative Seats
The rain event was more wind than rain, strong winds with gusts up to 44 mph. We drove into town to see what the harbor was like. There was a small sailboat that had dragged anchor and was sitting close to shore. The tide was out. We left and played with Bleu at Notter’s Pond.

D4 Inside Seams
Day two of the dinghy build started out with me finishing wiring the hull bottoms together on the centerline of the bottom panels. This was much easier than the wiring of the chine edges of the bottom panels and the side panels.
Wynah Bay to St. Marys Entrance in Several Parts

It was morning at anchor in the Wynah Bay entrance channel. The anchor had dragged during the night, but thankfully we didn’t end up hitting any buoys or going out to sea.

The motor had been reluctant to start, so the option of continuing up the channel to Georgetown, SC, or motoring in the ICW to Chaleston was out of the question. We would be stranded if the motor quit, so it was sail, head out to sea, and make for Fernandina Beach directly. This is the same route Kaimu took on the disastrous trip last December. Eerie.

The wind was NW at 10, which is a fair wind. A motor yacht went by and out to sea and we followed. We had to sail from off the edge of the channel and I was able to get the sails into a wing and wing situation, which one fisherman in Morehead City said was, “Wing on Wing”.

I was following the same course as on Kaimu, head out the channel, sail due south for 2 hours, then 240 magnetic, direct beeline for St. Marys Entrance, the channel for Fernandina Beach. The image shows our sails wing and wing.
