Dinghy Skeg

I was suffering with what seemed like a cold and also had allergy symptoms. I awoke and felt fine. The green pollen that was coating everything was gone. Maybe it will return.

Clammy Hands

Items came in from TEMU, the Chinese cut rate retailer. One was a nice little drone that cost about twelve and a half dollars. It looked like an easy thing to play with while I coughed and sneezed. I was fighting a summer cold, even though it is not summer elsewhere, it seems like it here. A nice [...]

Sun Doggie

After laminating the cedar strips onto the gunwales of the dinghy I found the screws I used wouldn’t come out. The epoxy had seized them. The screw heads were stripped so I cut a straight slot in the heads with the cut off wheel. The cedar smoked when the screw heads got red hot. I could remove [...]

Just Add Water

The rainy weekend started off with overcast and fog but no rain. It looked like I might be able to get something done on the D4 dinghy. I wanted to change the bow seat which is really the bow deck. The sailing option uses the deck to hold the freestanding mast. I didn’t like how the deck looked, [...]

D4 Dinghy Alternative Seats

The rain event was more wind than rain, strong winds with gusts up to 44 mph. We drove into town to see what the harbor was like. There was a small sailboat that had dragged anchor and was sitting close to shore. The tide was out. We left and played with Bleu at Notter’s Pond.

D4 Inside Seams

Day two of the dinghy build started out with me finishing wiring the hull bottoms together on the centerline of the bottom panels. This was much easier than the wiring of the chine edges of the bottom panels and the side panels.

Capn Andy/end of winter
In the Fall we are trying to make the most of any good weather and we feel blindsided when the cold weather finally hits. In the Spring we are suffering from Winter and looking for any semblance of warm weather. When we get a warm day we are jubilant. Then we get another snow storm and are blindsided again.

It's called Human Inertia and it goes on all the time. It's hard for us to change our routines when other things change around us suddenly. This results in a lot of anxiety about the troubles we face and results in inappropriate planning and battles that needn't be. It's hard to find a solution to this kind of problem because we tend to be in a routine that satisfies us and we don't like to change it.
.
Soon it will be warm and work can continue outside where we left off in November. The Winter routine will have to be changed to a Summer routine. Strangely, there is some resistance to this change, even though I am eager to get to work.

Winter means spending a lot of time reading, watching television, and browsing the internet. My interest in photography got me watching the Art Wolf TV show, Travels to the Edge. It is an excellent travelogue featuring photography in ideal locations around the world. Of course he uses the best of equipment and one of his sponsors is Canon, the maker of my camera. The PBS station that carries this show locally is standard definition, not HD, which is kind of strange. This station also carries a show called Martha Stewart's Cooking School. The episodes are available on her web site. She shows all the basics such as organizing a kitchen (galley) and various cooking techniques. Watching her make ravioli makes me want to have some right away. She shows how to make pasta using a food processor or manually with a bowl and wooden spoon. Lots of good recipes on her web site.

A hike down to the docks revealed ice still covering the inlet, but melting away. A pair of Canadian geese were exploring the edge of the ice.
