20 July 2015 | Bodkin Inlet/Chesapeake Bay
Capn Andy/Hot and Humid
Previously, on the Lending Club Channel, the heroes broke several sailing records, including a passage from Newport, Rhode Island, to Bermuda, and did it in less than 24 hours. Now they have moved to the west coast, preemptively left Los Angeles for Hawaii several days before their start in the Transpac Race, and set a new record for the passage of less than 4 days. This boat is a large trimaran chartered this year for the purpose of breaking sailing records.
.
In spite of another day of hot and humid unhealthy weather, work continued on the stack pack. It was obviously too loose, so clamps were temporarily fastened to the battens at the ¼ and ¾ points, a sling attached, and the battens hoisted to tension the stack pack just like it would be on lazy jacks. Then measurements were taken of excess cloth.
.
The empty stack pack was taken up to the sail shed and, with the top edges lined up with each other, the excess cloth was marked and a seam sewn lengthwise at the bottom. The stack pack was then taken down to the boat and filled with sail again. Here is a picture of it zipped up, sitting on the ladder on sawhorses. It is a little snug, I may let it out a few inches.
