Ama Deck Repair

27 August 2015 | Bodkin Inlet/Chesapeake Bay
Capn Andy/sunny and mild
After two primer coats, the plywood pieces got a third coat of epoxy, then the leftover epoxy was mixed with colloidal silica and applied to the gluing surfaces and the pieces that form a flange for the patches were glued in place.
.
The next day any excess blobs of epoxy were sanded off, the edges of the pieces were drilled for screws every 2 inches, and the plywood repairs were screwed into place. The screws are being used to clamp and will be removed after the glue has set, then the screw holes need to be filled with epoxy.
.
The picture is of the ama deck repair. A stringer was added on the centerline of the deck to keep it straight when it is glued.
