A walk to Point de Piedade

10 February 2012 | Lagos
I went walking with Barbara and Pauline, friends who have lived for years in Lagos, to finally see Point de Piedade which I failed to see on my two trips with friends on the little train in Lagos. However after a long trudge uphill through the town and then along the cliff tops, I realised that on the second trip with Sue we had actually got off at Piedade and not at Praia D Ana after all but had been confused as the lighthouse didn’t look like the one in the advertising pictures.

I took some snaps for posterity (see Barbara and Pauline posing) and we walked along the cliffs and enjoyed some breathtaking views then headed back towards Lagos eastwards to another beach café for Barbara.

She has taken up Geo-caching which involves looking for hidden caches all over the world by going online to find out clues like map references and others including riddles, knowledge of the area etc. She was after finding a cache said to be near the café we had coffee at. We easily found the cache taped to one of the metal supporting legs of some decking and the café owner knew all about it if we had failed – the thing no doubt being good for his business. On finding said cache you can put something small of your own inside and/or remove something to out in another cache you visit. Barbara has set up her own cache and put in a toy goldfish I seem to remember which she hopes people will take and “move” all over the world to visit places she and her hubby never got to see in their boat Rosie. You can track caches online apparently and she knows her fish has left Lagos but is heading towards the UK at present rather than to foreign parts – oh dear
