On to the Dominican Republic
03 March 2012 | Gilligan's Island, Puerto Rico
We've been speeding along the coastline of Puerto Rico as we want to take advantage of a very narrow weather window for the 2 day passage over to the top center part of the Domican Republic. We couldn't resist, though, overnighting at Gilligan's Island near the southwest corner of the island, and, yes, it was named after the 1970's tv show. Then we will be going northwest through the Mona Passage which apparently can be rather uncomfortable if the wind speed and swells are substantial, which they shouldn't be over the next 2 days.
We can't say much about Puerto Rico as we've mostly viewed it from a distance. Perhaps there will be another opportunity to enjoy it another time.
Once in the DR, at a marina/ water park/casino named Water World, we'll do neglected laundry, stock up on food, and prepare for the overnight passage to the Turks and Caicos as a temporary stop on our way to the Exumas.
More to come in a few days.
