Shelburne, NS

From Carters Beach we moved on to Lockeport just for an overnight. Not much in Lockeport and the weather is so foggy. We moved over to Shelburne which was only about 20nm further but it would allow us to provision before our hop over to Maine. We are still having trouble with our transmission not shifting into forward and decided to find a mechanic who could look at it. It turns out that the fix that was suggested to me only resulted in breaking the seal and when we looked at in Shelburne I had transmission oil all over. The mechanic along with Richard in Ottawa determined that the clutches were shot. Imagine, just 300hrs on this new engine and transmission! It turns out that this is a problem that Volvo is well aware of and luckily they have a solution and have issued a 'bulletin' on it and extended the warranty for this issue for a further 2 years. So the next step was to find a Volvo authorized mechanic that isn't too busy with the fishing fleet willing to work on it. The one in Shelburne was just too busy to even look at it but contacted someone from just north of Yarmouth (about one and a half hours away) to look into it. They finally came onboard yesterday and have ordered the replacement clutch pac. Unfortunately they didn't have one in stock in Vancouver, which would have been and overnight ship, so they had to order it for Annapolis, MD and it will only arrive on Monday so they will be back on Tuesday to install it. Shelburne is a lovely little town but not for one and a half weeks!
We've met some nice people from all over while we've been here including a couple from Saint Martin and one from South Africa. People are very friendly here, even offering their cars for us to use if we want. I've been fishing with the frenchman from St. Martin and he's taught me how to fish for squid. He caught 5 of them right off his boat the other day.
To make matters worse, the weather has been absolutely perfect while we are waiting here which we could use to our advantage better while traveling. Oh well, as our new french friend would say "C'est la vie".
The picture above is some local 'Loyalists' we saw the other morning emerging from the fog. Surprisingly we see a lot of people dressed like this around here.
