Welcome Back
16 January 2015 | Green Turtle Cay, Abaco Island Chain, Bahamas

Yesterday at 7:00 AM we raised anchor and motor-sailed initially using the genoa as we rounded the island, then the mainsail once we were headed more upwind. The forecast was for any wind to die off; so, anticipating a full day of motoring in flat seas, we figured we better use the wind while we could. What actually happened was that the wind increased on our nose, bringing with it an oncoming swell which not only slowed us down, but dowsed all of Grace and most of Kevin with salt water, interspersed with periods of rain in increasing intensity, of which there was none predicted. Our speed fluctuated with the conditions, until later in the day when our speed had dropped inconsistent with the conditions; so, again putting the engine in reverse briefly proved to bring the speed back to normal. About 6:00 PM, we rafted up to Ken, Francie, and Skipper on s/v Release who were already secured to a mooring ball in Black Sound. The tropical evening temperatures were perfect for us to catch up with each other in Release's cockpit. The overnight rain was a great fresh water wash-down of Grace's topsides.
This morning we cleared in with Bahamas Customs and Immigration, where we were warmly welcomed back to the Bahamas by Officer Griffith. We then walked around the settlement, picking up a few groceries. Upon our return to Grace, we lowered the quarantine flag and raised the Bahamian Courtesy Flag. This afternoon Kevin made two trips in the dinghy filling up the gas jerry jugs.
We have gotten to see dolphins while underway yesterday, and in the mooring field today.
Although not last night's sunset, which was a lovely one as we arrived at Green Turtle Cay, the above photo is of a sunset at Green Turtle Cay when we were here last winter.
