Trip log: 917 nautical miles. We're a little over 50 nautical miles out of Huatulco. It's now 5:30am on Monday and we're well into the "shotgun barrel" of the Tehuantapec. So far, the weather is exactly as predicted, with light winds up to 12 knots for the southwest, exactly the opposite direction from where the strong gap winds come. Another large cruise ship came within a couple of miles on Tane's watch---these things look like huge cities out here, and at 2 miles, they seem very close.

The moon, a thin red sliver, has just risen dead ahead, with two planets close by. The southern cross is clearly visible off our starboard side. The seas are very calm. The wind has dropped to 5-7 knots, so we've restarted the motor. We're making about 4.8 knots, so we're definitely fighting the current which flows up the coast of Central America.
