Not Making much Forward Progress

09 July 2018 | Alligator River Marina, NC
Windy Windy Windy
We have not been making much progress toward the Chesapeake Bay. After our last post, we visited with friends in Wrightsville Beach, NC on June 30th. We moved on to Camp LeJune and anchored on July 1st. On July 2nd we moved to Cedar Creek, near Oriental and anchored for the night. Weather remains hot and we are running GenSet and A/C all night.

Some time along here we picked up what we thought was a rope on the Starboard Shaft. We scheduled a visit from a Diver at Dowry Creek Marina. He showed up around 1930 and that is when we found out it was not a rope but a broken Aft Strut.

The next day being the 4th we sat it out a Dowry Creek. On the 5th we called River Fores Boat Yard in Belhaven about a repair. They told me to bring the boat at noon for Haul Out. Boat hauled and the problem diagnosed, they jumped on the problem, found a qualified Welder to fix the strut and the repair was completed by 1530. Never saw a yard move this fast. We were back in the water by 1800 and spent the night at the yard.

On the 6th of July we moved to Alligator River Marina. Forecast for the Albemarle was not good for the 7th and 8th. We waited it out with NE Winds 25-30, gusting to 44.

We are hopeful that things will continue to calm down tonight. Tropical Storm Chris is off the coast and stirring things up so what tomorrow brings is till in doubt.

On the Move AGAIN

29 June 2018 | Calabash River (North of Myrtle Beach, SC
Hot and Humid
Well it’s been a while since we Posted. Not much going on. Last Saturday while Anchoring in the South Santee River the Anchor Windlass went Kaput!

We moved to Bucksport Marina Sunday Night and then on the Osprey Marina for the next four days waiting for the Windlass part to arrive.

Yesterday it finally arrived and was installed and we were back underway this morning. We only went 32 miles today and anchored in the Calabash River right at the NC/SC border.

Tomorrow we will move north to Wrightsville Beach and anchor in Motts Chanel and visit long time friends Jim and Pat Watson.

It remains Hot and Humid and right now we are at anchor with the Generator running and both Air Conditioning units going.

Back at Last!

21 June 2018 | Bull Creek, Hilton Head, SC
98F, wind 15-20. HOT HOT HOT
It has been some 7 months since we posted last. We just left Brunswick 2 days ago and are nw anchored in Hilton Head, SC; on our way North to the Chesapeake Bay.

It has been a hectic 6 months since Christmas. For those that don't know, Ken was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer just before Christmas. In January he had surgery and the tumor removed and then treatments and 2 Biopsies over a period of 6 months. The last Biopsy was last week and he is now cancer free. Later this year they will check again and he will do a follow up treatment.

Not to be outdone by Ken, Diana decided to have her other hip replaced during the same period. She is fully recovered and is now an official Walking Iron Works.

Plans for the summer are curtailed due to the late departure. We will spend the summer cruising the Chesapeake with a (auto) side trip to our hometown for our 60th High School Reunion.

First two days of cruising have been without incident. Keep your fingers crossed

Almost to Brunswick

30 October 2017 | Wahoo River, Georgia
65, Sunny, Wind 5-10
AfFter leaving South Santee River we moved on to Dewees Creek near Charleston, SC on the 23rd. We had some bad weather coming so we moved south to the Ashepoo River in SC and spent the 24-26th there just cooling it in high winds.

The weather gave us one good day so we moved to Bull Creek in Hilton Head, SC. We spent the 27th thru the 29th there. On the 29th we had some really high winds (the highest we recorded was 43 MPH).

Today we moved 65 miles and are now anchored in the Wahoo River in GA. Tomorrow on to the Brunswick area and on Wednesday we will move to Brunswick Landing Marina, finishing our trip South.

Continuing South

22 October 2017 | South Santee River, SC
Partly Cloudy, 78F and Windy
After our great crossing of the Neuse River we laid up in Cedar Creek for a couple of days waiting out the wind.

We then moved on to Mile Hammock Bay at Camp LeJeune. They had training operations going on so we had something to watch. Love to see these guys in action.

We then moved on to Wrighstville Beach and visiting with our long time Friends from Columbia (Jim and Pat Watson).

Yesterday we moved on and spent the night at Osprey Marina in Myrtle Beach. We used to stop at the Barefoot Landing Marina in North Myrtle Beach but the Marina operator their has turned into a jerk so our dinners at T-Bonz are on hold. We might try the Barefoot Marana across the river next time. They have a shuttle that will take us to the Landing for dinner.

Today we moved on and are now anchored in the South Santee River. It is a bit windy but still some nice weather.

Tomorrow is a short day of 37 miles to Dewees Creek and on Tuesday we pass thru Charleston Harbor.

We are on a schedule to reach Brunswick GA on or about November 1st.

AT REST

16 October 2017 | Cedar Creek, NC (Near Oriental, NC)
Windy Windy Windy and Rain
We had a beautiful travel day on Sunday (finally). The Neuse River was calm and probably one of the best crossings we every had.

The weather for the next couple of days is pretty windy so we decided to lay over here in Cedar Creek.

I have determined what the term "alternator" means on an engine. The one on the Starboard engine worked "alternately" so we ordered a new one and picked it up at the Alligator River Marina. This morning I had the opportunity to install it and everything now appears normal (it is a boat though).

Tomorrow is another lay day then off to Camp Jejune on Wednesday.
