Fitzroy Island to Trinity Inlet/Cairns 24/6/2016
As I sit outside eating locally caught prawns & homemade cocktail sauce, and sipping on home brewed lager, I thought I must update our readers.
So here I am. As stated in my previous blog the plan was to set sail on Wed 22 June. On Tuesday night we had decided not to lift anchor and wait for a longer, better weather window before setting sail. Well, Wednesday morning after looking at the weather we decided, what the hell, let’s do it, and we set off knowing we had an overnight passage ahead of us to reach a good sheltered anchorage before the weather turned for the worst.
Well, 30 minutes into our voyage, our radar and depth sounder stopped working, grrrrrr , so we had no other choice than to turn around. We motored to Trinity Inlet Cairns (up the river) where we are presently anchored while we await for its repair under warranty. Raymarine plan to replace the display unit. This should arrive Mon/Tue, then it’s a matter of waiting for it to be installed.
On arrival and anchoring up the river the midges very quickly smelt out fresh blood and started biting, something since leaving Darwin we have not missed at all. Mozzie nets quickly came out of storage and covered our hatches. You know, they just take all the fun out of sitting outside.
There is a silver lining to every cloud, after 3 ½ weeks since leaving the marina in Cairns we had a hot shower and use of a laundry at Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron, yay didn’t have to hand wash the sheets after all…….. sweet
Today, Saturday 25th we ventured ashore, into Cairns Central and got a few supplies and treated ourselves to Korean cuisine for lunch before returning to the yacht.
