GROMIT SAILS!!!!!!!
25 November 2009 | Deltaville to Norfolk
Windy: 15-20mph out of the N-NE
Wow, what a day!
We, well I, held my breath
getting out the channel at
Deltaville. It was low tide.
All was fine at 8 feet and
then it began to shallow.
The depth sounder
read 5.8 feet, but then it was
back to 8. Whew!
We motored for a good
hour and a half until we got
everything organized and in
place to put the sails up.
What a great sail. We finally
took our sails down as we passed
by Hampton, around 3pm, because our speed,
which had fluctuated between about
5 and 6.5 knots, was down to about
3.5 knots. I was concerned about getting
to Hospital Point to anchor in the daylight.
I turned off the engine at exactly 4:30.
It was a great and uneventful day - as in,
no surprises or problems.
After dinner, we played, 'toss the pigs', as
Michael called it, causing many giggles.
The game is actually called 'pass the pigs'.
Then, as we were turning over the tiles
to play 'Bananas', Maia said, " Sitting in
Norfolk, playing Bananas, how odd!"
The only place we'd ever played 'Bananas'
(it's a scrabble type game), was at Deltaville,
aboard the 'Alexandra'. Her crew, Alexandra, Caroline
and Ruth, were seasoned players. We learned
well from their expertise!!!
Tomorrow we will go to Nauticus. It is a fantastic
Maritime and Science museum.
Then on to Great Bridge on Tuesday.
