A Few Days Away
14 January 2010 | Jacksonville, Florida
Lynne and Frank, our dear friends on 'Milly B', invited us to spend a few days at their cottage at the beach near Jacksonville.
This was a very welcome diversion after all the toe rail work.
It was especially great for Michael who works non-stop on boat projects. He has quite a number on the go. Parts have been arriving in boxes of all sizes and we have had to stow them below decks (where we have no room), while we continue to work on the toe rail.
We left last Friday morning, Lynne and I about half an hour earlier than Frank, Michael and the kids.
Lynne and I went to Sam's (a Costco equivalent) and Michael and company went to Harbour Freight (a Princess Auto equivalent).
When we arrived and had settled in, we went for a walk on the beach.
We found some amazing shells, petrified turtle shell pieces and shark's teeth.
Maia found a puffer fish. She wanted to keep it, but when we smelled it, we decided that no amount of bleach was going to ever make it pure! So we took a few pictures and and sent it back onto the beach.
I had a blast cooking in a kitchen that had counter space. Whew-hew!
Friday night, we sat by the fire playing Maia's requested game: Pictionary.
It was great fun!
On Saturday, the kids did a science experiment. Liam wanted to know which would cause a flame to extinguish more quickly; salt water or fresh water.
Can you guess?
Lynne and Frank left on Saturday afternoon and took the kids with them back to Jekyll Island, for a sleep-over on the 'Milly B'. Michael and I returned to Jekyll on Sunday afternoon.
We felt very relaxed and ready to plunge back into the toe rail project (well I did anyway).
