Measuring, Taping and More Scraping
15 April 2013 | Chebilang, Thailand
Days 4 & 5 : April 14 & 15
Day 4
Sunday, April 14
Not much progress today. A bit of hull scraping on Gromit and Wallace. Michael pickled the water maker. That means he put a preservative in it so that it won't mold and destroy the membrane. We won't be using it here, high and dry!
In the afternoon, we drove and rode into Satun, which is about 14 kilometres away. Maia and I drove on the scooter we borrowed from a neighbour and Michael, Zoe and Liam rode our 3 bikes. We looked around town a bit, went to one of the big grocery stores and then found a nice night food market and had dinner: pad Thai, spring rolls, roti, fried chicken, green coconut juice and mangoes. Liam and I rode back on the scooter and the others peddled back.
Day 5
Monday, April 15
Today was a much more productive day.
*Zoe finished scrubbing the propeller shaft.
*Scaffolding set up.
*Michael and I measured for the new water line.
*I masked the new line with tape. It took a few tries. The tape looked pretty wavy the first time.
*More hull scraping...........
These are some of the major things we got done and there were numerous other bits and pieces that were accomplished.
Around 6, Zoe and I went on our daily fruit finding mission. We jumped on the bikes and rode the 5 minutes into the local village to see what the little fruit and veg vendors had. We came back with two small watermelons, a pineapple, some bananas, tomatoes and cucumbers.
The shipyard is actually about 14 kilometres from Satun in a little town called Chebilang. When Zoe and I ride around, we get a lot of 'hellos' and smiles. The kids love to wave and say hello and when we answer back, they giggle. There are quite a few foreign sailboats here at the shipyard, so seeing foreigners is probably not hugely unusual for the people in the town, but seeing two blonde gals on fold up bikes everyday, causes some surprised looks. It is a mostly Muslim town, so we are careful to dress modestly, so as not to offend. Zoe is lobbying hard to convince me to cycle into Satun early in the morning, but I'm not sure.......
