Arrival in Sri Lanka
28 March 2014
We arrived in Sri Lanka on the morning of March 25th; 10 days/9 nights. The last night was the most stressful because there are so many fishing boats along the coast.
We anchored in a bay about 12 miles from the Port of Galle, even though we were supposed to go directly to the port to check in. We did this for two reasons, the first being that we were tired and the second that we wanted to remove our windvane, because it limits our steering ability. I didn't want to have to navigate, with limited steering, around in a port I'd never seen.
We anchored well out in the bay and Zoe noticed another sailboat quite close in. She said she thought it looked like our friends on Mystic. I said, 'no way'! I mean, what were the chances? She insisted so I pulled out the binoculars and guess what! It was Mystic. They'd been in the bay about 4 days and were going to be leaving the next day, so they up-anchored and came out to where we were. We has dinner together and spent a great evening catching up and sharing passage stories. The last we'd heard, they weren't even coming to Sri Lanka and we were going to see them in Chagos or Madagascar.
So, now we are moored in the Port of Galle. Michael and the kids went for a walk around town yesterday and now we have internet, so I can post some pictures.......soon.
