Bird Island

14 October 2012 | Suwarrow, Cooks Islands
Nina's diary
Today we woke up and had leftovers pancakes for breakfast. I quickly made scones and helped to pack our stuff to go to shore. We went on the swing for a while than Harry, Alouette and us got in the big aluminium dinghy and set off to Bird Island. John followed behind in their dinghy as an emergency vehicle. We zoomed all the way there and anchored the big dinghy just of the beach. We waded into the shore and set off on a walk the island. I found a nice shiny light bulb and a huge piece of foam and Katie found a bird skull. There were loads of birds and chicks. Almost two nests to every tree, in the ground and loads of birds in the air. There were boobies, frigate bird, cute little white terns and a few tropical birds. My favourite were the white fluffy frigate bird chicks. Katie found a rum bottle with a woven flax shaft around it and an old US dollar note inside.

After more than an hour walking around and taking pictures we hopped back into the dinghy and headed to a good snorkelling spot. On the way we had brownies. When we got there everybody jumped in the water. After snorkelling around the whole bommies, us kids threw a bottle round. Then we went to another snorkel spot and we sat up the front of the boat. I liked the first place better. After getting out of the water we had scones for lunch (at 4:00 pm), oranges and cookies for desert. Then we zoomed back and spend the rest of the afternoon we played with Katie and William in the water around the boat. Dad warmed up the curry for dinner and we might watch the rest of Bourne Identity.
