Unplanned Man-Over-Board Drill
23 March 2012
Along the way we planned to sail between the mainland and Diamond Rock. As we approached the passage the wind picked up then changed direction and one of our cockpit cushions blew overboard. We pulled in the genoa and proceeded to circle back for our unplanned man-over-board drill to rescue the cushion. Our first pass was unsuccessful; the current was pushing the cushion away from the boat. The second pass failed as well. The third pass we were a little smarter and closer, but the cushion was getting saturated and was too heavy for me to lift out of the water. Ed and I changed places and finally Ed was able to recover our lost cushion from the sea. We must have been some good entertainment for a passing yacht - going around and around in circles. Can you spot our blue cushion in the water?
