The Journey Begins
Martinique - Anse Mitan
03/23/2012

I am back on schedule and figured out for today. Our plan was to sail to Trois llets. However when we turned the corner into the Fort de France Bay the wind picked up to 30 knots on our nose. And then to top it off we lost the use of our port engine. We attempted to motor up the coast with one engine, but were not covering much ground, and the winds were fluky. We dropped the main sail hoping this might help, but instead we lost all forward speed and were going backwards. We raised the sail and tacked our way into Anse Mitan. After four hours on water the captain was ready for a nap! Another great day at sea!!

TOO MUCH RUM!!
03/23/2012

OK Ok OK, I have either had too much rum punch or have just been away from the real world for too long!! I am mixing up locations and events, my attention to detail is slipping. On a positive note - I still know who my husband is, he is just a little more scruffy these days. Every time we video Skype back home we hear a scream in the background when they see Marc on the computer. The bad Brazilian experience was actually in our next destination Anse Mitan, not St. Anne!! St. Anne had an amazing long stretch of beach - we spent a few days enjoying the white sandy beach, reading and people watching.

Unplanned Man-Over-Board Drill
03/23/2012

Along the way we planned to sail between the mainland and Diamond Rock. As we approached the passage the wind picked up then changed direction and one of our cockpit cushions blew overboard. We pulled in the genoa and proceeded to circle back for our unplanned man-over-board drill to rescue the cushion. Our first pass was unsuccessful; the current was pushing the cushion away from the boat. The second pass failed as well. The third pass we were a little smarter and closer, but the cushion was getting saturated and was too heavy for me to lift out of the water. Ed and I changed places and finally Ed was able to recover our lost cushion from the sea. We must have been some good entertainment for a passing yacht - going around and around in circles. Can you spot our blue cushion in the water?

On the move again!
03/23/2012

We had seen all there was so see in St. Anne so put up the sails and headed north. Our destination was Les Trois-Ilet. It was a beautiful day for a sail, both Ed and Nic were getting used to the boat and ready for our new adventure. Nic was wearing a seasickness patch behind her ear and life was good! She even made Ed a rum punch for the trip!!

Martinique - St. Anne
03/23/2012

Our Brazilian experience - The Caipirinha's had the wrong color and were disappointing, the food was ok; but the service was terrible. One thing we have realized while sailing is that it is nice to go ashore for dinner for a change, but dinner is always more tasty on the boat. In the Caribbean we have been getting used to the laid back lifestyle and all that comes with that - you are forced not to be in a hurry.

Back in Le Marin
03/23/2012

We spent one night in Le Marin and then motored around the corner to St. Anne where we could swim in the clean water. We were very excited about a Brazilian restaurant that we found while exploring the small town - we made reservations for dinner.

Sore Arms
03/23/2012

Ed was fine at anchor but felt better looking at the horizon during our crossing - needless to say his arms were a little sore after our four hour crossing. Marc had hurt his back just before Ed and Nicole joined us so Ed was promoted very quickly to Captain's assistant - pulling ropes and mixing drinks!

Sailing north to Martinique
03/23/2012

It was time to venture out into the sea again - we put up the sails, left St. Lucia and headed north to Martinique. Nicole was having trouble with seasickness on the boat whether we were at anchor or out on the open sea. She was armed with loud tunes, sea bands, crackers and an aromatherapy stick to ward off the nausea during our crossing. Nicole was quite the trooper, feeling sick all the time and never complaining, but eager to get off the boat when the opportunity arose.

St. Lucia - Segway Tour
03/18/2012

After a couple nights in Marigot Bay we headed north to Rodney Bay. One thing Eddie and Nicole wanted to do on their holiday was go on a Segway Tour. We headed into town, put on some helmets, mounted our Segway X2 with big knobby tires, circled the practice track a few times and then set off for our adventure. The tour took us up a few hills to several look-out points on Mount Pimard and we ended at a beach bar. Was great fun - would highly recommend this if you come across it in your travels!! For lunch we stopped at "Spice of India" which offers a unique lunch consisting of a sampling of a few Indian dishes, which change daily. The food was Amazing - will definitely go back when we return to St. Lucia!

St. Lucia - Fresh Tuna!
03/17/2012

We had hoped to catch some fish during our sail, but instead ordered a yellow-fin tuna from our boat boy who brought it first thing the next day. Fresh seared tuna, there's nothing better! The next day we headed to shore, toured around town and did a little hike up a very steep road with beautiful views from the top.
