Rodney Bay Lagoon

I wanted to respond to a comment left by Jan about the boat boys, and Captain Bob in particular. In fairness to him, we did learn today from our friend Kenyatta that there was at least one episode of flooding along the main highway in Rodney Bay when the hillside fell apart from all the rain. But in answer to her question about whether there is a system for letting other cruisers know about the "bad apples", yes there definitely is. First, there are several reputable guidebooks and websites used by cruisers who depend on current information and updates. Second, there is a very active word-of-mouth system going on between cruisers. We all soak up any information we can get about common issues and concerns. Any "good boat boys gone bad", as was the case with one in Dominica who became addicted to crack (or so the rumor goes), quickly get blacklisted; word gets out fast about who to avoid. But it's hard to know whether one's experience with someone is just bad chemistry between people, or a "bad apple" in the bunch. Ed and I are always hesitant to spread negativity about someone unless they are over the top bad. Captain Bob wasn't honest, but would he be bad for everyone? It's a tough call to make. I think he means well, but I also trust my intuition and something didn't sit right with me from early on. I doubt we would recommend him to our fellow cruisers, but I'm not sure we'll tell everyone we meet to avoid him either.

I would be curious if any cruisers reading this have comments to make or thoughts to share. Or anyone else for that matter.
