Skylark Has Landed!

13 July 2016 | Yarmouth ME
Elizabeth
What a momentous occasion! We arrived at Yankee Marina in Yarmouth, ME yesterday afternoon and were both exhausted within an hour after docking. I wondered why. Was it because we dodged 5,247 lobster pots (but whose counting?) between York and here? No, that was normal Maine sailing for us. Was it because I spent hours pulling together items to offload in anticipation of my mom coming to pick us up today? Well, that was tiring but not that unusual to work hard on a project. I walked Luna before dinner and I'm not used to power walking so perhaps that tired me. It was hot and Luna and I wilted even though it was late in the day. It felt like we were still in the tropics! But no, that didn't seem like the reason either. When I collapsed on the settee before showering, preparing dinner or pouring a glass of wine I told Ed I thought it was an emotional response after months of trying to get here. That and this being the closing out of our dream, finishing the circuit and knowing we are done. I think that's what our exhaustion is about.

Here's how it feels. We did it!! Looking back, it's seems surreal. It's hard to explain but I can almost hear the book closing with a satisfying, completed thud. A book that stays with you like a valued friend even after you part ways with sadness for what you are letting go and excitement for the approaching bend in the road. It's like that.
