Hello everyone, It's me Luna. By now the number of readers on our blog has probably dwindled to a small handful of my devoted fans. I've wanted to write you for a while but Elizabeth hasn't been available for dictation and I still haven't figured out this typing business. This might be my final posting but I can't say for sure. Elizabeth tells me she's coming to the end with the blog since she's too busy settling in to our new life in a house (with Grandma) and she doesn't have any idea what to say on a sailblog anymore. I told her she could simply make things up but she shook her head and changed the subject. She might have thought it was a stupid idea. Ed travels back to Skylark sometimes but he doesn't want to carry me up a 12' ladder so Elizabeth and I stay here to keep our eyes out for the resident fox, wild turkeys, groundhogs, and neighborhood chipmunk who stares in the windows begging because someone has been feeding him ---not a very smart chipmunk if you ask me--I want to say, "Hey you, Chipmunk! I'm a dog! I will chase you!" Instead I simply stare back and plan my chase strategy for the next time I'm outside. I have yet to see a moose but everyone tells me I will eventually. I would rather strategize capturing chipmunks than bump into a giant animal with antlers and an unfriendly disposition. There are bears here too but we don't have a bird feeder so they look for the good stuff in other yards. I suggested we get a bird feeder anyway and put a large sign on it saying, "No Bears Allowed" but Grandma just patted my head and said, "Good dog". I think she thought it was another stupid idea.
I think I'm going to like being a land dwelling dog even though I miss seeing dolphins and riding in the dinghy dangling my feet in the water but the back seat of a car is just as fun. I go to the dump, farmer's market and post office, take long walks to town with Elizabeth, roll around in the grass, run around in the woods and look out the window from my favorite chair. I like it here. Humans ring the doorbell and I race to see who it is but as of today I've let everyone come in. I look for our old friends but I'm making new ones and maybe some of the old ones will visit me here in Maine. In the meantime, although sometimes I miss my life as Luna the Reluctant Sailing Dog, I think my new nickname should be Luna the Happy Landlubber Dog. When we get the "No Bears Allowed Sign" which might go nicely with a "Moose: Stay Away!" sign, I might make one for the driveway telling everyone this is where I live. Look for it when you drive by. I promise to let you in when you ring the doorbell.
