As a matter of maintenance Ed removed the centerboard from the boat to inspect the bronze pin the board swings on and to refit an attachment point for the pendant that raises and lowers the board. He first ground out the epoxy covering each side of the pin on the keel. There’s a big bronze plate screwed on each end of the pin. It was last inspected in 2006. Now 10 years later when it was removed it was still in perfect condition, still greased up along the pin itself as well as its ends so once the epoxy was ground away from the keel, and the weight of the board was taken off, the pin easily slid out from the centerboard and keel. None of the epoxy stuck to any of the bronze plates since they were heavily greased before being epoxied 10 years ago. We’ve done blogs in the past about how the pendant broke and the board dropped down while underway. Ed is going to attach a permanent attachment point similar to what the manufacturer originally designed so that will no longer be a issue.
