Varnishing. Endless Varnishing.

Ed is finished varnishing the starboard side of the boat. This morning we backed out of our slip, turned around and backed into our slip, stern to the dock in order for him to start varnishing the port side. The sun is presiding in the northern hemisphere in Trinidad given that we're so close to the equator. If we back stern-to the dock, since we face east-west, we get less sun on the southern side of the boat. Less sun is better for varnishing. Does this make sense? We had lots of people helping us with lines, one on his dinghy giving us a push, a group of Brits and South Africans yelling "Fend off!" when our side came too close to one of the dock poles. Fend off? Should seem obvious but I didn't understand what they were saying until I looked and saw what was happening. I did just that, fending off from the pole in the knick of time. We're all set, except now Luna and I have trouble getting off the boat because we're lower in the water.
