Happy Birthday David! Ed wants to add something about our voltage level as it relates to the auto pilot going haywire. The volt meter was reading 12.4 which is typically plenty of juice left in the battery bank. But underneath the rough conditions we were in, the auto pilot was working so hard to keep up that the levels weren't enough, primarily when the refrigerator would come on. When the refrigerator compressor on a boat kicks in it momentarily creates a large energy drain on the batteries. This momentary voltage drop, combined with other processes related to Ray Marine course computers caused an energy break built in that shuts the course computer down automatically. Easy enough to restart it, but we're not sure why jiggling the wires kick-starts it back. It always has. We are leaving soon for Hampton, VA to Bluewater Marina. It will take 4-5 hours and it's raining, but the temperature is very mild so we don't mind the rain at all. This photo was taken as we were leaving Newport Harbor.
