Skip and Beanie

After walking Luna and finding fresh shrimp at a nearby fish market, we were visited by Skip Bailey wearing his Land' End, Bailey Island Maine cap and accompanied by his sweet pup Beanie who is just 11 months old. Skip is from Bailey Island where his family are some of the original residents. He brought his boat over to say hello after seeing that Skylark hails from Boothbay Harbor Maine. Skip was a lobsterman for most of his younger life in Maine before becoming part owner of New England Log Homes where he works to this day. He rescued his dog Beanie on the side of the road when she was just 2 weeks old, near death, having obviously been thrown out like unwanted garbage. Her tongue is totally black, she is pigeon-toed and was terribly disappointed not to be allowed on Skylark for a playdate with Luna. You might be curious how she got her name. Skip habitually meets several of his buddies each morning at a local coffee shop called Bean. Either the owner or a worker there suggested calling the little pup Beanie since she joined the coffee group on a daily basis. And so it was. It was delightful getting to know this interesting man and his darling sidekick.
