Dodger Repairs

If you're wondering what in the world we're doing still sitting here in Charlotte Amalie, it's all about our dodger repairs. Our zippers, which I mentioned in another post blew out on the windshield part of the dodger have to be replaced. Since that section protects our cockpit from waves and rain, we haven't wanted to take Skylark anywhere until we could zip it up tight. The sailmaker/canvas guy we are using with Quantum Sails couldn't get to us until today, but he promises a quick turnaround of just a few hours. During our effort to remove the windshield, detaching it from the rest of the dodger, we discovered those zippers were frozen solid. Frozen as they would not budge no matter what we tried or used or how much we cussed. Nope, not moving. We finally resorted to cutting the sewn edges to remove that piece and we brought it all over to shore this morning for new zippers. Once we get the dodger back and re-installed, we'll be ready to leave after getting fuel in the morning. It will be a quick jaunt to St. John where we have mail waiting for us and then our errands will be done. Unless something else breaks. There's always that.
