Tips for Cruisers: Cleaning Supplies

25 April 2015
Elizabeth
I am post-dating this since we'll be underway tonight and tomorrow, and then most likely without wifi for a couple of days. However, the places we never had wifi in previous years just might have it now. It's amazing how quickly this is happening in remote locations, or in locations that aren't so remote but never had any signal in the past. For example we never had one here in Lameshur Bay but thanks to our AT&T phone with a simcard, we are getting fast and easily accessible wifi. Anyway, we should be in St. Maarten on the French side by tomorrow afternoon.

This photo is of a microfiber cloth sponge and a foam brush. These two items, along with a bucket of water with vinegar is all we need to clean all the wood and fiberglass interior of Skylark. The floors are better cleaned with a damp mop and we use Soft-Scrub for the galley sink, 409 for the head sinks and shower floors, and Simple Green for the heads...but everything else is cleaned with vinegar water. The brush is great for slats, corners, nooks and crannies. The cloth sponge lasts forever, is easily rinsed out, and quick drying on the lifelines. The foam brushes only last for several cleanings before wearing out but they're inexpensive and fairly easy to purchase. We have a whole bag of them and Ed uses them occasionally for varnishing touch ups.
