Luna and Her Buddies

Luna might not have any furry friends on Bonaire, but she's developed sweet connections with a bunch of cruisers and landlubbers. I've already told you about the gang who work at Zazu's Bar where we go for happy hour. Luna loves them and they love her. Then there's Rob at the scuba/dive shop who invited her to spend the day with him in the cool air conditioned store. She declined but was flattered he would ask. There's 5 year old Ava, the daughter of an American woman and Dutch man who live here and stopped by on their new Carolina Skiff just to meet Luna (I met Donna at her consignment shop recently). Ava was stunned to learn Luna lives on the boat all the time. "She even sleeps on it??" she asked with a look of wonderment. But her best buddies are the cruisers we've been hanging out with. This is a young couple from Holland who are loads of fun, they crew on a lovely large sailboat moored next to Skylark. His name is Maurice and I'm embarrassed to say I don't have a clue how to spell her name but it is pronounced like Duka. They love dogs and missed the ones they left behind with their families. Yesterday they stopped by to ask if they could take Luna to shore for a little walkabout. Luna was delighted to jump in their dinghy but didn't take her eyes off of us on until they got to the dinghy dock. This is a photo of her keeping watch on their return.
This dinghy and most all dinghies that are even slightly larger than ours would not be acceptable to Luna on a full-time basis. She loves dinghies, as you know. She loves to go really fast with her ears flapping and her face getting splashed from waves. She loves jumping in new dinghies with people other than her own. Take her anywhere and she's a happy gal. But she's bewildered when the dinghy she's traveling in has sides that are too high for her front paws to reach the water. We would never be able to get a different dinghy for that very reason. She's happy in this photo but she's thinking, "What good is a dinghy ride with new friends if my paws stay dry?"
