Bringing in Dinner

When the conditions in the Gulf Stream calmed down somewhat, we put out our fishing lines and figured if Ryan caught a fish (he’s not an experienced fisherman but wanted to learn) his adventure would be complete. Ed went down below for a mid-morning nap while Ryan and I monitored a freighter that was approaching too close for comfort. I was adjusting our course accordingly when we spotted a white line of foam in the water with sea birds swimming above it. We figured it must be fish schooling and no sooner had we said, “It must be fish…” we were saying “Fish on!” The reel was whizzing and Ryan ran to the stern while I hailed Ed. After securing the waist belt Ryan did an expert job bringing in a hefty Blackfin tuna. What a thrill! Ed taught him how to clean and fillet it and we’ll savor every last bite. What else could possibly happen that would make this trip any better, other than wind for the sails? Well, the next day another pod of large grey dolphin swam at our bow, entertaining us for 10 minutes or so before moving on. Wow! All this makes worrying about a silly lo that is about to be named a tropical storm and head our way seem like small potatoes. We must be living right.
