We're having problems connecting to the internet, so we will have to send through our single side band radio (no photos yet).
We picked up Jim, Connie & Marvin in our dinghy and went to shore. Which is called Stone Island. We parked our dinghy in front of Benji's Restaurant. The day before, we had their famous mojo de ajo pizza (garlic shrimp pizza) and drinks. It was fabulous! Ian (owner/manager) told us we could park our dinghy in front of his restaurant anytime and he would watch it and it would be safe. So that's what we did. We took a water taxi to Old Mazatlan, then another taxi, which was a Ford Ranger with the back turned into benches to sit, into town. We saw the Plaza de la Republica, Catedral Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepcion (absolutely beautiful), had lunch in the Mercado Central market, this market is amazing with just about anything you could ever want. We bought some smoked Dorado (after we had a sample) it was very tasty! We were truly tourists, in and out of many shops, and of course the ice cream store!
Some History of Mazatlan:
The name Mazatlan comes from the Nahuatl language, meaning land of deer. The original indigenous inhabitants of this area were nomadic hunter and gathers named the Totrames. In 1531 Spanish troops marched through the area known today as Sinaloa. For a number of decades following, Mazatlan was used mostly as a natural port of refuge, and also as a hiding spot behind the hills of Cerro Neveria, Cerro Vigia and Cerro Creston for opportunistic pirates!
