Teeth Cleaning

22 March 2011 | Zihuatanejo
Denny/88 degrees
Once again i find myself challenged with my past statements. While walking down the streets of Zihuatanejo, Becky and I walked past a
dentist office. Becky mumbled under here breath (imitating me), "I'll get my teeth cleaned in Mexico". So I walked in and in my best
Spanish, I pointed to my mouth and pretended to brush. I asked if they could clean my teeth. After some more quality mime work, I had an
appointment for 5 pm that day. The agreed price was 600 pesos or $50 (at home I would pay over $100 for a hygentists to clean my teeth).
We went back at 4:30 and at 4:45 an English speaking Dentist introduced himself and with his assistant they spent the next 45 minutes
cleaning my teeth. It was the same as in the states, except at one point he covered my noise and eyes so he could sandblast the stains off
my teeth. I had never had that done before. The sandblasting caused a little pain, but in the end my teeth were white and I was happy. I
had to comment on the fact that the dental office was more modern than the hospital in Santa Rosallia, but then I'm sure more people have
dental work done in Zihuatanejo that have surgery in Santa Rosallia.

So far I have had three medical needs met in Mexico, and three times I have been taken care of quickly and professionally. Thumbs up for
Mexican heath care so far!
