First Passage the Two of Us
14 April 2011 | Playa La Cruz Hualtaco
Becky/Night 85, Day 90+
We are in the El Salvador Rally. There are 8 boats left and we are one of them. Here in Hualtaco, a few of the boats have been getting together and going to town for dinner. Last night, after dinner, they came to our boat where Larry brought his guitar and along with Denny strumming, we sang up a storm! We had a great time.
We have gone through the process of checking out of Mexico. SV Sound Effect, SV Georgia and SV Kokomo are leaving Hualtaco today for El Salvador. This is a 450 mile crossing, or 4 nights. Crossing the Gulf of Tehuantepec is a big deal in that gale force winds blow through this area all the time, so we have to listen carefully for a 4-5 day of low winds. The winds are less in May & November. This is a first crossing Denny and I have done by ourselves. We will be checking in with SV Sound Effect & SV Georgia along the way.
Once we get to El Salvador we have to wait for high tide. There is a boat that comes out and guides you through as there can be big waves. For Washington people, it's like at Ocean Shores, going through the waves, you have to time them to be small waves and keep the boat straight and not head down sideways. There is a person in the boat that video tapes you going through the waves and you can buy the DVD for memories. One of the 8 boats left had us over to show us his video from last year. It was something else to watch! We are a little anxious for all of this to go well, which I'm sure it will.
