The first few ours of school today, we went to a glass blowing shop. Because Becky and I lived right next to the Tacoma Glass Museum, we were excited to see how glass blowing is done in Guatemala. Well, the two different places use the same technique but in Guatemala they are not making art, they are making useable glassware. In the video below you can see wine glasses, a small cream holder and shot glasses being made. Closest to us 3 guys are making a cream holder. Start to finish it took about 3 minutes, that's twenty per hour! They were for sale inside for about $3.00. The shot glass went quicker and the wine glass took about 5 minutes. Most of the glass made here is shipped to Europe. It was quite the contrast to Chihuly's two hour production that most of us could only dream about owning.
Here is a photo of finished product for sale in the store.
Unfortunately we are traveling by boat and the risk of that kind of glass on the boat is to high, so we left the beautiful glass for the next guy.
After ten years of planning a trip around the world, we have given up our life on land to head to bluer pastures with the hopes of staying young as long as possible. Our mission is to have fun while moving about the earth. [...]When we finally return to dry land for good, we hope to have seen most of the worlds shore line and experienced things that can only be experienced at 5 knots Of course if we find a place we like and stay there for an extended time, that's ok too.
We have two boys and two grandson's and several friends and family of all ages. Our hope is that those we know will decide to spend some time with us. Life is enjoyed most when you share it with those your closest to.
