This Garmin 76 c GPS is hard wired into the boat so I don't have to change batteries every few days. It used to be the GPS that ran our computer driven navigation software. Now the chart plotter has a GPS built into it so this is a back up. It is also used as an anchor alarm. When we anchor I set the anchor watch for the smallest distance we can and still not have it go off because of anchor swing. So far the only alarms have been when the wind changes direction and I have the alarm set for two small of circle. Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope those are the only alarms we ever hear. We also have a third GPS we keep in the oven in the hopes that if we get struck by lightning we can still navigate. We keep the hand heal VHF in the same place.
