Good-Bye Costa Rica

Becky has been working on how to make bread sinse we left the US. She finally figured it out and the first chance we got, she traded a loaf for a cruising guide of the inter coastal waterway (see photo above). That met one less loaf for me. I think we need more bread pans.
We spent the day checking out of Costa Rica. It involved going to the Port Captain’s office twice, the bank, Immigration and Customs. The process took about 2 and a half hours and cost $20. So far checking in and out of different countries has been no problem. After reading the cruising guides and talking to others you would think that once you leave Mexico the process gets hard. From my prospective it’s just the opposite. El Salvador and Costa Rica have both been easier and less expensive to enter and leave than Mexico. Officials are here to help and they do a good job. Today an official made a mistake on some paperwork. He was so apologetic. He felt it was his fault we were delayed about 30 minutes. In the end, no big deal. I just read a blog from a friend of ours that is in Panama now. Sounds like Panama is no different. Go from office to office until the job is done.
Land Sea Cruisers club in Golfito is in all the cruising guides and was a great place to spend 10 days. Tim enjoys having cruisers around to tell his story’s to and is helpful when he can be. It’s clear the government has changed the rules and cut into their business by not letting boats stay more than 90 days. I hope they are able to keep the club going with the decrease in business.
Becky always tells me after we have been someplace awhile, it is her favorite place so far. Today she told me we could pass on Golfito the next time threw. I think given the choice we would stay in El Salvador longer and make a quick pass of Golfito. Our opinion is that Golfito is a run down little town with a cruisers club that has had better days. In contrast the El Salvador rally is new with true excitement. Everyone’s different; if you come this way, check it out. It might be for you.
