For some reason I have this thing about the price of cigarettes. In the US, we all know is that smoking is bad for your health, so we try to deterrent smoking with a sin tax. In Washington State a pack of cigarettes cost $9. My research shows that sin taxes don't work, people are still smoking. In Panama you can buy a pack of cigarettes for $1.80, if you buy by the carton. But when you walk the streets here, very few people are smoking. When in a store, I have yet to see anyone buy cigarettes. If it's not the cost then what is the deterrent? Facts might help. In the US, lawyers have scared the government into a week warning about the risks of smoking. The surgeon general warns that smoking may be bad for your health. At the same time we get word from the tobacco companies that there is no proof. In addition, in magazines they show how fun smoking can be. In Panama, the politicians have the guts to say the truth. SMOKING KILLS, OR SMOKING CAN CAUSE A SLOW AND PAINFUL DEATH.
Check out the carton I bought.
Every time a person in Panama wants a cigarette they must read the label.
This deterrent seems to be working. When will we stop dancing around the issue and state the facts. Price is not he issue, education is the issue. OK I will stop now.
We are going to frame this carton when we get home.
Life is good on Kokomo!
