Happy Veteran's Day! 11/11/2011
Yesterday we took the dinghy on a long ride to Dog Island. There is a ship wreck in about 10 feet of water. Because of the wreck, it's a popular spot and the Kuna charge $2 per person to go to the beach. I paid $12 for the 6 of us to snorkel and lounge on the beach in one of the coolest places a snorkeler can go. Divers pay big money to do this in 40 to 120 feet of water, but it is rare that a ship sinks in10 feet and is left to snorkel. We all loved it!
On the way back to the boat we stopped at each of the canoes we went by and bought their fish, octopus, and lobster. Our take was 12 lobster, one big octopus, and two fish, total expense, $20. Later that night Steve, Rena, Jim, Connie, Becky and I had a feast. When the eating was done there was actually lobster left over. How did that happen? Maybe we will put it in breakfast this morning.
Last night we had a real thunder and lightning show. At times the lightning was within a mile of the boat. Very loud! It shows there is some risk to living in paradise. Today the weather is wet and breezy. Hopefully there will be a weather window that allows our friends to get to the West Lemon Islands. That is where their ride back to Panama leaves from. If not, we will have to spend a few more days enjoying their company. Hope they're not worrying.
Life is good and windy on Kokomo!
