At each anchorage we come to there is a net on the vhf radio or the single side band radio. The net here in the San Blas is on the single side band and can be heard from 300 miles away. A net is like a radio station talk show so that cruisers can check in with other cruisers to let them know they are safe. Some nets have a person that does the weather, most nets have a buy/sell or services needed or offered section. There is also a general information section where one might learn about a party on the beach, this section is very important :) Each net needs a volunteer controller to run the net. In a perfect world it would be a different person each day so no one tires of it. Over the past year I have thought Becky should volunteer so more people will get to know her and us. Because we never stay very long in one place she has never had the chance. Well things are changing. Kokomo is staying in the San Blas Islands for 6 months. We will still move around but always within a 50 mile radius. Last week on the beach I mentioned to one person that Becky might want to be a net controller if someone soft sold her on the idea. The next morning on the net a lady announced that she would be leaving the San Blas and could no longer do the net on Monday's. Right after that a man came on the radio and announced that Becky from Kokomo would start doing the net on Monday. How's that for soft selling it! Becky reluctantly agreed and I am once again in the dog house. The net is at 8:30 am it's now 7:30 am and Becky is singing "la la la la la la laa", as she tries for a good radio voice.
After the net I will continue with an on the spot live update.
The net is over and Becky is resting as her heart was pounding 100 miles per minute. The idea of being net control was good as you could here her confidence build as the net progressed. I hope with her new fame she will remember where it all started. She's all smiles now.
On our way into the island, we had two boats wave and say what a good job Becky did on the net this morning. Oh, it's just begun, but I'm so proud!
Life is good on Kokomo!

PS - We found an island that has limited internet we can use today. But usually no photos or video for awhile.
After ten years of planning a trip around the world, we have given up our life on land to head to bluer pastures with the hopes of staying young as long as possible. Our mission is to have fun while moving about the earth. [...]When we finally return to dry land for good, we hope to have seen most of the worlds shore line and experienced things that can only be experienced at 5 knots Of course if we find a place we like and stay there for an extended time, that's ok too.
We have two boys and two grandson's and several friends and family of all ages. Our hope is that those we know will decide to spend some time with us. Life is enjoyed most when you share it with those your closest to.
