Fixing the boat in exotic places

The Honda generator has been causing us some trouble for the past few months. No big deal because we have a new engine. I put the old alternator on the new engine so the smart regulator could provide the correct amount of volts and amps to keep the house batteries full. In the past few weeks the Regulator is starting to give out. How do I know its the regulator? If I hit it with the soal of my sandal it starts to work again, but this is starting to fail me now so the Honda generator is becoming more important. Today I took it apart, all hoses and parts I could unscrew, and I cleaned them. Then I reassembled. It's remarkable that I didn't have any extra parts. I'm suppose to have extra parts, right? Well it now works but only with the choke on. I think that means it's not getting fuel so after we charge and make water, I will try again. With any luck it will be good as new in a few more trys.
