Favorite Spot

10 March 2014 | Bahama Banks, Bahamas
Becky/75 degrees, sunny, no wind
We left Alice Town in North Bimini at 3 am because we had 75 miles to get to the Bahama Banks. So when we left it was very dark. This might have been a blessing for me, because exiting the mouth we had to cross a bar which because of the high winds the few days before, the waves were high and crashing along the shore. We had to time the waves so we weren't hit with a sideway curing wave. As the water pulled back and started to form a wave, we gunned it and pushed through. I saw the water drop to 7', then when the wave started to come toward us back up to 10'. I think in the daylight you would see all this forming around you, because it was dark I just saw a few waves near us. It reminded me of the El Salvador bar we crossed, but then we had a jet ski guide.

Now we are safely anchored in the Bahama Banks. We've seen some pretty special places so far, but this is my favorite. Why? Because you look all around and you only see water, no boats, land, people, no bugs! The weather is perfect, calm, still and peaceful. We watched a beautiful sunset and stayed outside to enjoy the sound of nothing but water. The Bahama Banks is 150 miles long and 70 miles wide in 10-12' of water. Would love to spend more days here, but the weather is suppose to change in the next couple days, so we have to keep moving. Plus I want to remember this place as calm & perfect.
