No Relief
27 March 2014 | Galliot Cay, Bahamas
Becky/77 degrees, constant 20+ knot winds, cloud & sun
When we dropped the hook in Galliot Cay it was pretty rolly, well it never let up. We thought the wind would clock around so we would have some protection from the land, but it didn't. It was so rough we never went to shore for happy hour. Instead, Bev & Lew came over for happy hour and dinner. Later in the evening, around midnight, the wind started to clock around but all this did was put the boat sideways to the waves. Things were flying inside the boat. We rolled from one side of the bed to the other all night, getting only a couple hours of sleep. I heard that Lew got sea sick in the night it was so bad (Denny was close). In the morning we pulled anchor and headed back to Georgetown. s/v Suzanne was following us and called to see if we were ok, he said our mast looked like a grandfather clock, swinging back and forth. The seas were 4- 6 feet, we had a triple reef main and reefed jib going 5-6 knots. We are now anchored securely in Georgetown and although we are much better protected, the wind is howling a constant 20-25. Chris Parker, the marine weather man tells us this bad weather will remain through the weekend. Seas 10 feet. We're not going anywhere!
We had happy hour and dinner on Suzanne. It is so nice to have good friends close by!
