Love Tobago Cays
30 June 2014 | Salt Whistle Bay, Mayreau part of The Tobago Cays Marine Park
Becky/87 degrees, hot and humid
While walking along the road you can see the Mayreau people working very hard, men rotating the soil for planting, mowing the grass, women doing laundry and children playing with goats. The people seem very active and happy. This one guy sat outside his bar and would always say “hello” and ask how we are doing. He didn’t have the internet, so we would have a short conversation then continue on. But after the second day, we decided to have a drink at this guys bar. His name is Robert, was born and grew up on Mayreau. He built his bar, has been serving drinks for 30 years and was very proud of his place. The next morning was Sunday and we decided to go to church. There were about 16 people in this small church. They said the rosary before mass and the music was two guitars that filled the church with a beautiful sound. Later in the day we went on a snorkel. Even though the spot was small, we were pleasantly pleased. We saw a puffer fish that was the largest one we’ve ever seen, about 20”. Later in the day, a very nice couple, Robert and Iris, from Switzerland, invited us for happy hour on s/v Lelea, a 49’ catamaran. We were given a tour and their boat is so spacious!
Life is good on Kokomo.
