Started off the day with an early morning snorkel while the sun was coming up. Lots of pretty, sparkling fish, a moray eel, and some puffers. Got back in time for a delicious hearty breakfast made by the captain himself. With breakfast over and a short lived tropical rain storm survived, our tour directors decided to do a group snorkel. All 4 of us went to a new reef and checked out the local fish action.
Lots more beautifulness and awesomeness, as we knew it would probably be our last snorkel in the San Blas. Decided to extend the tour a bit, while Denny and Becky zoomed off in the dinghy back to Kokomo. Scotty and I were snorkeling along minding all the fishes business when out of nowhere came a humungous man eating ferocious (possibility of a slight exaggeration in the description) African Pompano (photo above). At first we were thinking this is kind of cool to see such a huge fish at close range. Until we realized it was pacing back and forth getting closer and closer. With my hand white knuckled around Scotty, we were bracing for the beast to try and make us its next meal. I had my feet extended and was ready to fight, and Scotty was ready with the old one two punch. Luckily {for the fish of course}, it never came down to fisticuffs. The fish simply did one last swim by (at a range of around 4 or 5 feet from us), then nonchalantly swam out into the deep sea. Where one day someone will hopefully catch and eat the bugger that managed to scare the pants off both of us.
With our heart rates accelerated, we immediately decided to pick up the pace and head back to the safety of Kokomo. On to our next adventure, a dinghy ride up a fresh water river for a bath and laundry run. Managed to spot a couple of monkeys, a toucan, and lots of green parakeets, along with a mish mash of other amazing jungle creatures. Now we're clean, destinkified.
Soon enough the captain and his first mate can get back to life as they know it in paradise.
They'll be ditching us in the wee hours of the morning to head back to Panama. Looking forward to our flight from Carazon de Jesus and a spectacular end to our incredible stay on Kokomo. Words can not explain the hospitality and yummy meals our tour directors/hosts/ chefs/ captain........ have shown us over the last 11 days. If you haven't already been here I have no idea what is stopping you.
Their life really is better than any vacation!
Thanks Denny and Becky for such an amazing adventure. We look forward to the next time we meet.
After ten years of planning a trip around the world, we have given up our life on land to head to bluer pastures with the hopes of staying young as long as possible. Our mission is to have fun while moving about the earth. [...]When we finally return to dry land for good, we hope to have seen most of the worlds shore line and experienced things that can only be experienced at 5 knots Of course if we find a place we like and stay there for an extended time, that's ok too.
We have two boys and two grandson's and several friends and family of all ages. Our hope is that those we know will decide to spend some time with us. Life is enjoyed most when you share it with those your closest to.
