We were picked up at 5:30 am for a 5 hour bus ride to Puno
The city of Puno is located in the south east corner of Peru, on the shores of the magnificent Lake Titicaca the elevation is 12,565 feet.
Downtown Puno
This is where we had lunch
The desserts next store looked amazing!
The streets are very narrow. Denny is standing next to a taxi
After lunch we got on a tour boat
Our tour guide explained the history of Lake Titicaca
Then we went to one of the floating islands - Machaqa Marka
When we got there, the women were gathered together working on preparing the chicken
Even the little guy had to help
The chief (left) of the island was explaining how they keep the island afloat. Basically what he said was they start with grass blocks and tie them together, then they put grass on top and layer it back and forth. The grass top is 12' deep. They have to put new grass on top about once a month. Then they anchor the island so it won't move. There are 112 floating islands on the lake.
The women make these to sell
Those orange fuzzy balls are attached to her long braid
Then Denny and I were invited into a woman's home. It was very small for two adults and two children. She showed us what she made and we bought this, it is a pillow cover.
Then we got into another boat for a ride over to another island - Hananpacha
But before we left we were sung a song
This island had a condor made out of grass
We are waiting for a bus to pick us up at 9:30 pm. We will ride on the bus all night until we reach Cuzco.
After ten years of planning a trip around the world, we have given up our life on land to head to bluer pastures with the hopes of staying young as long as possible. Our mission is to have fun while moving about the earth. [...]When we finally return to dry land for good, we hope to have seen most of the worlds shore line and experienced things that can only be experienced at 5 knots Of course if we find a place we like and stay there for an extended time, that's ok too.
We have two boys and two grandson's and several friends and family of all ages. Our hope is that those we know will decide to spend some time with us. Life is enjoyed most when you share it with those your closest to.
