A chochosan is when the wind comes from Columbia it funnels up and over the mountains and hits the San Blas Islands with a big blast of wind. It comes fast with no warning, other than on the VHF radio boats from about 3 miles away toward the east will call to say it's coming. We are anchored in Yansalardup where there are only 3 boats with plenty of room. Yesterday morning a chochosan hit us hard. Denny was checking out the East Lemons where there are 18 boats and many during this high wind drag anchor and there is much drama with yelling and screaming. Denny watched two boats do this. The wind speed was 40-45 knots. We had just listened to the Panama Connection Net at 8:30 am, and they were talking about a gale storm off of Columbia. We didn't have any damage but the dinghy cover came off along with the liferaft cover. I did manage to secure the most important thing, our cocktail noodles! Here's a 36 second video of the beginning. It took me 2 hours to upload this in the middle of the night. Sounds long, but if you think about we're in the middle of nowhere!
After ten years of planning a trip around the world, we have given up our life on land to head to bluer pastures with the hopes of staying young as long as possible. Our mission is to have fun while moving about the earth. [...]When we finally return to dry land for good, we hope to have seen most of the worlds shore line and experienced things that can only be experienced at 5 knots Of course if we find a place we like and stay there for an extended time, that's ok too.
We have two boys and two grandson's and several friends and family of all ages. Our hope is that those we know will decide to spend some time with us. Life is enjoyed most when you share it with those your closest to.
