"You do something dangerous and stupid - if you survive, it's a story. If you die, everyone remembers you died doing something stupid. We're going to be remembered as two of the dumbest people on the Rio Dulce, second only to that twin-engine airplane pilot who tried to fly UNDER the Rio Dulce Bridge. His last words on the radio were probably, '¡Oye, Bubba! Watch this!' "
People who dinghy across a heavily trafficked river in a storm, in the dark, with no lights or flotation devices onboard are pretty dumb. But we survived, so it's a story.
Salty Sailors (www.saltysailors.com/) is featuring our Cruising the Western Caribbean series. We sail from Guatemala to Honduras, visit the isolated and wonderful Colombian islands of Provdencia and San Andreas, then pushed on to Panama. We buddy-boated with Art and Darlene of SV Wayward Wind and reunited with several good friends at Panama's Bocas Del Toro Yacht Club.
Rose of Sharon is docked at Bocas Del Toro, Panama, while we cruise in our land yacht, our Coachmen Mirada, christened "Miranda." Visit our photo blog at Travel with Joe and SharonSalty Sailorslink

From 2004-2006, articles about our adventures were published in Texas' Telltales Magazine. The 2004-205 navigational information may no longer be reliable, but the story is still ours . . . and if you gain any knowledge or have a good laugh, then it's well-blogged!

The best laid plans of mice and men... Our sail to Belize became a Major Roadtrip when our Volvo Penta engine developed a leaky cylinder. The saga of how to repair an engine in Guatemala, where parts and mechanics can be scarce, plus our wonderful trip to Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye with Signe of California and Alfred of Washington can be found in the April 2007 issue of Telltales Magazine! Please email for additional information.
