Rob and Cathy just left to return to VT. We had a fabulous time and once again, did not think to take pictures. Nikki did get one of us feeding some local Canadian geese that love crackers. Geese you can feed; seagulls you should never feed, for when one finds food, dozens magically appear. Anyway, they brought the fixins' for Marguritas and we had a great dinner, laughed a lot, and went swimming and did cannonballs off the stern in the pitch black darkness around 2230. What a hoot!
We arrived ahead of schedule with the help of a strong south wind that pushed us a little over 8 kts for the last 3 hours. We arrived at a draw bridge we needed to wait about 20 minutes for the opening at 1600, but it was worth the wait to get to the very good anchorage. The bridge is a dinosaur, very narrow and does not lift totally vertical, so it was a very tight fit to get the boat through without scraping the port side of the boat and have the mast clear on the starboard side. When we first arrive, I radioed the bridge tender and asked about the horizontal clearance. His reply was a classic: "I don't really know. Why don't you come up and take a look?" Sheesh! We made it through with Nikki standing on the deck watching to make sure the mast spreaders missed the raised portion of the bridge. The rain started almost immediately after we dropped the hook, and then it turned nice for the rest of the evening.
Assorted thunderstorms have been moving through here today and the same is forecasted through tomorrow evening, so we are still planning to stay on the hook here through Monday and depart Tuesday, bound for Liberty Island in New York harbor. Just heard from Jenni, and she and Matt may come down from VT to spend the 4th with us. That would be fantastic! I hope it works out and they can make it.
