A quick update on our progress today. Obviously, we have cell service here. We both woke up to some stupid bird singing at 0130 this morning and thought it must be close to sunrise. Of course it wasn't, but we thought about heading out early to take advantage of the ebbing tide. You saw how far up the creek we were, and with no moon, it was too dark to attempt to navigate unknown waters like that, so we attempted to go back to sleep but "stupid %^$#@!& bird!" would not quit. We finally rousted at 0430 and were off by 0500. A good start, but it quickly got foggy - VERY foggy, and it was all radar and GPS for about 2/3 of the day. At one point, the ferry that come across from CT to Orient Point radioed us, and we passed within 1/4 mile and never saw him, nor he us. There was a lot of that most of the day, with lots of horns sounding off and people letting others know their locations and intentions over the radio.
We arrived at Block Island at 1330, and are now headed to shore on a recon mission, scoping out what the island has to offer and plan our day ashore tomorrow. We plan to spend tonight and tomorrow night here, and will leave Wed. morning for Martha's Vineyard. Our next update will be Wed. after we arrive there unless plans change.
