Randy
Very tired since I woke up at 0230 and could not get back to sleep. Since I was up early, I was hoping to get an early start, but the fog was so thick there was not a chance. It finally lifted enough to weigh anchor at 1030. But not before a few phone calls to friends looking for advice on anchorages. There aren't a lot of options and I was worried about the high winds forecast for tonight. I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to leave at all today, and then I realized I was being overly cautious, which I typically do when I am single handing. Anyway, I kicked myself in the ass and started out in some fog and eventually drove out of it totally by about noon.

In the process, I met a couple of other people on sailboats moving in the same direction to the same anchorage: Jerry and Barbara on Kum Ba Yah (how appropriate?) from San Diego (they are not loving this cold weather) and Wally on Gypsy Wind from Canada. These folks have tons of experience. Wally actually writes about this stuff and gets published. Kum Ba Yah and I will leave together tomorrow and it sounds like we may sail together for a while. It is always more fun sailing along with someone to talk to.

Quite a few of you have been asking about Joe and Deb on Sea Note and whether or not they were able to launch. I was giving them a 50/50 chance at best, but they did it yesterday! They were literally drug out sideways due to the shallow water (ask if your really want to know why) and are now just south of Deltaville, VA. I am too far along to wait for them, but we talked today and are thinking they may catch me around the New Year.

Lastly, here is a picture of tonight's sunset. It was a nice reward for today's trials. Moments like this remind me how good I have it. I am hoping to get close to the South Carolina border tomorrow. Crossing fingers and toes ...
