Even though this island is next to the CT shore and quite a ways from NY, it is part of NY. Today's factoid: In 1664, the Duke of York gave the island to New York under a land grant, and it has remained a part of New York ever since. So there ...

Another gorgeous day, but again a bit on the cool side. We left at 0700 to take advantage of the ebbing tide for a couple of hours, but eventually bucked the flood for the better part of 5 hours. Sailed the last couple and pulled in here at 1400. We will stay here tonight. Thunderstorms are forecasted to move in here about 2300 and last until around noon tomorrow. Some of today's pictures are of some of our neighbors here and local racers. We brought the property value down a bit when we dropped the hook. We are moving over to Mystic in the morning and will tie up to a pier for Sunday and that night ...

... and then we have a decision to make for Monday. Here goes: there is a pretty serious issue with the engine that I have talked to numerous mechanics about and the solution is more than likely going to require taking the engine out and do a complete overhaul. With the help of my friend Jeff Goubeaud in Greenport, NY, I am pretty sure I have found a good boatyard in Old Lyme, CT about 15 miles back west of here which has agreed to evaluate the problem and make a recommendation. The worst case scenario is a complete rebuild (option 1) and could take as much as two weeks from start to finish. Best case is a more modest repair (option 2) and may be a couple of days. Either way, the engine will have to come out - no small feat in a sailboat. Option 2 is going to be expensive, and option 1 is going to be REALLY expensive. We'll see how this goes. This could change the plans for taking the boat back south in the fall. Hoping for the best
... So in the meantime, we are going to enjoy Mystic Seaport Museum for a couple of days and relax.

Connie (our land based contact for the duration of Nikki's time on the boat), the next time you should expect to hear from us is Monday morning, and then we will let you know our next destination at that time, and when we expect to depart Mystic and what time we will expect to arrive at the next destination.
